The clearest bell ringing,
this need to be accepted,
like, you know, pinging.

Repeat, repeat, we are wringing
it, so eager to be there we barely mapped it.
The clearest bell ringing

is how we find ourselves flinging
our incomplete sentences, inept at,
like, you know, pinging

the log of our best thoughts, bringing
our best selves instead of ourselves intercepted.
The clearest bell ringing

is our first silencing. It's wringing
swallows from our mouths. We are wept out.
The clearest bell ringing:
a “like,” “you.” No pinging.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go. -Roethke
